Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i Design:

Upon unboxing, the Yoga Pro 9i immediately impresses with its sleek, all-metal exterior. The premium design not only looks elite but also repels fingerprint smudges, maintaining a pristine appearance. Lenovo’s signature colors add vibrancy, reflecting the company’s commitment to lasting, attractive designs.

Yoga Pro 9i Ports:

Users have a variety of port configurations to choose from, catering to different needs. From the convenient power cable dock to the advanced HDMI 2.1 interface, Lenovo ensures an exceptional user experience. Legacy ports like full-size SD card readers and USB A ports are included without compromising performance.

Yoga Pro 9i Performance:

Powered by the Intel Core Ultra 9 185h processor, the Yoga Pro 9i effortlessly handles basic tasks and office work. With options for NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4050, 4060, or 4070, users can select according to their requirements. For a smooth gaming experience, the RTX 4060 is recommended, while professionals may opt for the RTX 4070 for demanding tasks like esports or video editing.

Benchmark results indicate high single-core and multi-core scores, showcasing the device’s capability with demanding applications. Equipped with 32 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, multitasking becomes faster, enhancing productivity.

Yoga Pro 9i Display:

The Pro 9i boasts a stunning 16-inch 3.2K IPS display with a peak brightness of 400 nits. Users can opt for a brighter 1200 nits display for an additional cost. Featuring a mini LED panel with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a 165Hz refresh rate, the display delivers exceptional visual performance.

Dolby Vision and rich color depth provide an immersive experience for multimedia content creators and consumers.

Yoga Pro 9i Camera and Audio:

The 5-megapixel infrared camera and advanced shutter switch prioritize user privacy and security without compromising performance. Additionally, the six-speaker system with Dolby Atmos delivers an immersive audio experience for watching web series or YouTube videos.

Yoga Pro 9i Battery and Thermal Performance:

The Yoga Pro 9i demonstrates significant improvements in battery life compared to previous versions. Optimized thermal management ensures consistent performance across all tasks, with minimal thermal throttling. While fans may become audible under maximum load, ordinary usage remains almost silent.

Speakers and Fan Noise

In simple terms, the speakers are Amazing. They produce rich, lifelike sound with even bass Even at low volumes. Watching movies on this laptop is a treat. “Dune” sounded fantastic, especially the deep voices in the beginning.

However, I Must Say the laptop isn’t as quiet as some reviewers claimed. The Dave2D video, in particular, gave me the wrong impression. Even on the Intelligent Cooling mode, the fans can get pretty audible during gaming.

I haven’t tried the Extreme Performance mode yet, but I bet it gets loud. Strangely, Lenovo doesn’t offer fan control options outside Of their gaming laptops. Don’t creators also want the ability to adjust fan settings?

I did find an UltraQuiet mode in the BIOS, which lets the fans take a break sometimes under minimal load, but they quickly kick back in, even with simple tasks like watching YouTube. It’s not just this laptop; Lenovo seems to have a habit of keeping their fans running All the time.

Even the IdeaPad’s fans spin constantly, even when the CPU temperatures are low. Lenovo could learn from the competition, which offers better fan control options.

Gaming Experience

I was eager to try Out RTX HDR (timely release!) or nvTrueHDR in games, especially since many games I wanted to play don’t natively support HDR. So far, I’ve only tried two games, “Nier Automata” and “Exo One.

The screen and speakers completely transformed the gaming experience, it was incredible. Temperatures were: CPU 70°, GPU 70°. RTX HDR didn’t work in “Exo One” for some reason, but it looked good in SDR too. Its audio, with lots of low frequencies, sounded good. However, the Balanced 4060 graphics card wasn’t enough to run it at 3.2K 165Hz, which wasn’t surprising.

These are just my initial impressions, and they might have been influenced by my expectations before buying, especially regarding fan noise and battery life. As I explore the laptop more, I’ll update my impressions and add new information.
